Suspension lift
Most VW T4 Transporter owners lower there Vans, since mine is a Syncro I've decided to lift the suspension on mine as I might occasionaly head offroad on camping expeditions. Also on one of my springs the pigtail has broken off so since my MOT is due soon I thought I'd get it out of the way.
Rather than buy the excellent Seikel kit which I can't afford or justify I purchased a set of King Spring's which are Australian made uprated springs for the T4. These allow the full load of upto 1200kg in the van and also have the effect of lifting the suspension and are very heavily made.
Before I could fit the springs I had to fit some aluminium spacers to lower my diff so the cv joints aren't at an acute angle when the suspension is lifted. This also made it easier to fit the springs as the suspension arm can drop lower.
This is the position of the sliding door in comparison to the wheel before the springs were fitted:
Now look at the position of the sliding door in comparison to the wheel after fitting the springs. I measured the suspension and it had gone up by around 50mm. With the combination of my larger tyres and raised suspension I now have around 80mm extra ground clearance at the back compared to a standard T4.
Since it was dark I decided to leave winding up the torsion bars for another day. I took the van for a quick test drive and the springs are definately alot firmer, they should be a bit less firm once they bed in properly.
