Dr. DivX 2.0.1 Beta 3: The Dr. is dead, long live the Dr.

He's back and he would like to banish memories of the past 3 months. So, let's get right to the details.

In case ye faithful weren't aware, there was a code rewrite of certain sections that we had to do for the project to move forward. As a side-effect, you will notice minor changes in the user interface. Also, not all the user interface languages have been completely translated yet, so you may see visual interface anomalies caused by this. Rest assured, as we get back to making regular releases, these "creases" will get ironed out.

So, what are the new features? Not much, other than support for DivX Codec 6.5. Support for output pixel aspect ratio was left out for this build since it requires a non-trivial re-working of the source code to make it user intuitive. This feature will be added in the next build.

The Dr. also spent some time with a certain Ms. Vista. We noticed a few issues which we couldn't finish investigating and debugging in time for this release.

1) Encodes are slower by a factor of 2 on some machines
2) The application crashes when user tries to quickly add an encode job to batch during first phase of background analysis.

Don't let these 2 issues dissuade you from trying the Dr. on Vista.

We'll be updating the code and releasing builds to address these (and countless other!) issues.

Do you want to see what is new and fixed? Go here[http://labs.divx.com/node/218]

Do you want to try the new build? Go here [http://labs.divx.com/node/27]

Having problems with the new build? Go here[http://labs.divx.com/node/29]

P.S. The Mac build is up and running. If all goes well, we'll push out the build towards the end of next week. (2 comments)

Dr. DivX 2.0.1 Beta 2: Updated to work with DivX 6.4 codec

As promised, the Dr. is back real quick with a build which supports the new DivX 6.4 codec. We managed to squeeze in a few audio bug fixes too.

Get the build here (http://labs.divx.com/node/27).

You know where (http://labs.divx.com/node/29) to go in case you run into problems with this beta build :-) (0 comments)

Dr. DivX 2.0.1 Beta 1: The Next Step

After a short working holiday, the Dr. is back.

In addition to sundry bug fixes, we've added support for AVISynth script files and MP3 Surround audio encoding. Make sure you've set your AC3/AAC/DTS dshow filter to output 5.1 channel audio if you want to take advantage of the latter feature.

In case you hadn't noticed, a new version of the DivX codec (http://labs.divx.com/node/248) is out. The Dr. doesn't take advantage of the new features available in this version. Expect a new Dr. build, probably next week, which supports DivX Codec 6.4.

If you have any questions, check the FAQ (http://labs.divx.com/node/13) first. If that doesn't help, post the question on the forum (http://forums.divx.com/forum/forum.php?fid=33) and mailing list (https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/drdivx-user). If that too goes unanswered, mail d00kl1 (mailto:hvarma@divx.com).

Download (http://labs.divx.com/node/27), install and encode!

One last thing. A Mac OS X build of the Dr. will be out very soon :-) (0 comments)

Dr.DivX RC3: The Return of the Release Candidate

The Dr. is almost ready to take his position at the head of the encode operation table. He's got his scrubs on and is on his way to the operation room. It's time to get another snapshot of the Dr.

Thank you for the feedback and bug reports.

The Dr. hasn't changed much from his RC2 days, but we did fix a few annoying bugs. The Changelog[http://labs.divx.com/node/218] is available in case you want to know what happened since RC2.

You know what to do: Uninstall previous version, install new version, run "Reset" to make sure you start off with a clean and prepped Dr.

A special thanks to the translators who updated the latest build of the Dr. There are still a few languages which haven't been updated yet; in case you are interested, head over to the translation[http://labs.divx.com/node/219] page and help us out.

What are you waiting for? Download[http://labs.divx.com/node/27], install and get cracking on those encodes ;-) (0 comments)

Dr.DivX Release Candidate 2: Two is better than One

If you found RC1 useful, you will probably find RC2 more than useful!

We didn't plan on adding features so close to the final release, but we were tired of cranking up the audio volume while playing back the Dr.'s encodes. So, the audio "boost" feature got an overhaul and after almost 3 years, the Dr. no longer needs fiddling with the audio decoder to get your downmixed 5.1 tracks to sound right :-)

While we were at it, we snuck in a few other additions such as new version notification and support for floating point quantizer values.

More bugs fixed, you can get the details from the usual place[http://community.divx.com/labs/viewEntry.php?id=28&cid=2].

Unless you are enamored with RC1, we recommend you replace it with RC2. As always, remove previous versions of the Dr. before trying the new version. Download[http://community.divx.com/labs/viewEntry.php?id=27&cid=2], install and share your experiences on the forum[http://community.divx.com/forum/forum.php?fid=33]. (0 comments)
